That seems very pricey - I have had a quote for less than half of that!
I know that price does always equate with value but £1500 for a day on site plus report writing is surely way over the top?

All surveys that I have done help to keep our operating licences in place through the local council.

It is astonishing at the different qualities of reporting available, and ours is not cheap by any means, but is thorough, finds out the facts needed and can be read in simple and technical terms as required by authorities and company directors, who, after all, want to know what their money is getting them.

The noise survey we have includes work place monitoring, reports on each separate work area, and timed dose monitoring of personnel in key working areas that could be noise affected.

I can then take out a site floor plan and update any areas where the noise survey changes the risk controls required or PPE needed to stop exposure above current levels.

It is also used to give worthwhile employee information through works committee meetings, area safety audits, and tool box talks.

For a manufacturing company, with a dozen machines/locations to measure, we had been paying £1400 for almost 10years every year, but this year I got quotes for as little as £500, but I decided to do the assessment inhouse and the result is no different to any other years. Cost of doing inhouse, my time 1 day and capital for equipment ~£600

Just had a couple of one day surveys quotes for £595 +Vat. In most cases they won't have to spend a whole day there but simply take a measurement over a shortewr period of time and multiply it by the number of hours worked.

I have seen the HSE document, but I assume that most of the quotes on here will meet the required standard (at least I have no reason to believe the quote that I have received will fall short). So that begs the question - why the enormous range of prices? Even taking into account differing complexity of workplace to be surveyed, I would expect the rate for a day on site plus report to be within a narrower band. Or is there something extra with the more expensive quotes?

I think it just comes down to business costs. Smaller outfits, less overhead, lower costs? Or possibly a lower quality service/report. I would imagine with the new regs this is a market that has picked up, so perhaps people can charge a slightly higher premium. I'm not sure how anyone can run a business effectively charging £500 for a day on site plus writing a report. Maybe it is a fairly consistent/generic delivery approach.
