Is it a requirement to wear a 'box'in World Cup games??, if it is, and Rooney's football boots were in contact with such a box, would it of been possible for his boots to make adequate contact to cause harm?

unfortunately, if no harm, then this may come under intention to do harm or the possibility of doing harm?
Anyway, accident or not, box or not, would still hurt. If I remember rightly, the injured person didn't actually act too injured?
Maybe my acting needs a bit polishing because even I can hear the sarcasm!!

thinking along pro-active lines I wonder who actually had the authority to place this referee, considering one side that was playing.
You would have thought someone would have said, "er does everyone think this ref is the right one for this game".

...maybe the 'intent' was caused by the 'freindly Headbut' placed on Rooney via Ronaldo before kickoff. In Manchester we often show our affection to work colleagues in similar robust manner, the stamping and squishing motion from Rooney was merely a Portugese Wine stamping technique used to show respect.
