Posted By Tracey Thompson I would like to hear from H&S Advisers/Outdoor Education Advisers who are responsible for approving school trips and off site visits within local authorities. I would like to know if possible what systems you have in place for this and also whether your authority has delegated this task to any other team (i.e. H&S) rather rather than a designated OE adviser. Also, are there any authorities out these that use a private organisation for this service and/or whether you know if this is a possible option.

Posted By Jerry Sanderson It varies from authority to authority. In our authority we set up a team within the education health and safety section to carry out the approval and monitoring of high risk out of classroom learning activities. The team work closely with outdoor education colleagues where appropriate.
