Posted By Richard Walters Hi all, Can anyone tell me how many times you can clean flame retardant clothing before the material becomes unsuitable for use with heat/flame. I have the manufacturers guide stating the usual wash temp etc but cannot get the wash intervals. Thank you

Posted By Ali An excellent question. Unfortunately, I don't have a ready answer. However, you may try your local fire authority officer who may either give you a suitable answer or direct you to someone who can ! Ali

Posted By Steve.O. We use flame retartant clothing in our utility business and work on the following guidlines from manufacturers. The type of FR material is important in that if the flame resistant material is woven i.e. PROTEX or NOMEX then the garments can be washed without affecting the FR capacity greatly. However if the FR is chemically added to the garment i.e. a PROBANISED type of additive that is soaked into the clothing then we work on the likelihood that under normal usage and after 6 to 8 wash cycles in a normal washing machine we find that the FR qualities are significantly reduced. Hope that this helps
