Posted By ARB Morning All, I'm trying to get some examples of pre-use checklists for small items of lifting equipment. All of our MEWPs, forklifts and cranes are already covered. Items like pallet trucks, manual hoists and 'Genie'lifts seem to get a cursory, "Yep, looks ok". Does anyone have anything in current use that works? Cheers in advance, Al.

Posted By Glyn Atkinson We adapt our FLT forms to use for pallet trucks etc. It's about using what you already have, not buying in expensive templates. Make your form do what you need it to do, it's for your equipment, and for your people to understand and complete. It doesn't have to be fancy just useable and clear to understand. Use what you have and change the areas of checking to suit each specific item. State what you want to check, when you want it checking , and by whom in the work force. We also have individual harness checks by operators before every day's use. Don't forget to use the chance for their signature to be their bond to comply with your safety instruction, and put on the form what you expect them to report as typical faults to report. Train them in the use of the equipment and how to inspect on a daily basis, where to forward the report for auditing purposes, how to action removal or repair of the said equipment or item, record that training, you now have a tangible record if you ever had an accident that pertinent training took place, when, and to what depth. As a PC technophobe, if I can produce them , anyone can, trust me ! Footnote - these are totally acceptable to HSE review, been there done that !!
