Posted By Alan G Hi Could any one help me out or point me in the right direction, we have a large show trailer which we have contractors set up would I be right in saying we as a company are still under obligation to ensure they are erecting the trailer up correctly and safely. If so do you no where I pick up some risk assessments from so we could tailor make one to suit our needs Thanks for any help Alan

Posted By Ali I think the Contractors have a duty to erect the equipment safely being competent persons, but you will have a duty to check that it is safe to use for your staff as they are your responsibility. Ali

Posted By Chris Knagg Alan, What you actually need is for your contractor to provide you with their risk assessment and method statement which should take the manufacturers instruction manual on how they must put the trailer and its components into and out of show mode/transport mode and their own site specific risk assessment of the place they are to erect dismantle the trailer. Check your contractors insurance, competencies and previous track record and look at their submitted risk assessment and method statement against the instruction manual for the trailer. The things you will have difficulty with is site specific assessment issues such as access, egress, ground conditions, overhead hazards, other contractors actifities, working at height, lifting operations, security and fire. You could also look at transport safety, vehicle condition, towing and occupational road risk. You should also consider risk assessing the use of the show trailer by promotional, sales and business staff and visitors to the trailer and the stand upon which it is on. Basics include slips and trips, safety of items on display, fire, electricity, LPgas security and waste. Regards Chris
