Posted By MRTOSH does anyone know the periodicity of inspections for emergency lighting.we used to inspect them monthly but now management has stopped this. these buildings are not occupied 24 hrs but we can work in them days at a time doing maintenance on high voltage equipment and it is all artificial light.i think this creates a risk of evacuation but i assume they are taking the regs to the word. have they changed? do you know what the regs are that cover them ? cheers derek

Posted By The toecap The fire regs are due to change in October. Visit various web site to look at RRO fire regs and you'll find loads of stuff. I can quite remember if this is correct www.odpm.org.uk

Posted By RP BS5266 recommends a test procedure, the main points of which are shown below. DAILY Check indicator light and that all maintained luminaries are operating. MONTHLY An operational test for a short period (a maximum of one quarter or the rated duration). SIX MONTHLY Test for at least one hour for 3 hour rated systems. THREE YEARLY Test for full duration. SUBSEQUENTLY For self contained systems test yearly for the full duration. During each test, the lights should be checked for correct operation. After testing, the supply should be restored and then checked to ensure the system is charging correctly. A detailed test schedule and test reports are listed in BS5266. Test records and log books are available from TTS Fire & Security Ltd. For maintained luminaries we recommend that that lamps are routinely replaced after 5000 hours running, or according to the manufacturer's guidelines. Note: To comply with the proposed European regulations, the tests should be monthly and annually, i.e. a full discharge.
