Posted By IanD Has anyone got experience of Carbon monoxide (Co) testing for storage bins etc. We used to use similar systems for monitor underground roadways in the days of British Coal. I am looking for a system that can be installed in large storage bins to detect the products of combustion and give an early warning so we can act before the auto sprinkler system activates Any help appreciated

Posted By garyh If so why not go for smoke detectors or heat (IR) sensors linked to an alarm system?

Posted By IanD Thanks for the response Gary. Smoke detectors are no good due to the dust content in the bin. Heat detectors will not give any more protection that the existing sprinkler bulb protection we have. I was looking for an early warning so that we could operate a manual douse before open flames develop Thanks Ian

Posted By Adam Hammerton Ian, I used to work in a brewery and we looked at various systems for our malt bins (didn't actually go with anything new in the end though). Infrared detection was a strong contender though as it could be set up to detect temperature changes in the malt well before the air above it got hot enough to set off the fire alarm. Adam

Posted By Jane Blunt This may be a silly suggestion - but will proper carbon monoxide detectors not work in your environment? There is a range of flammable gas detection equipment on the market, set to give warning at 1/10th of the LEL-ish. Jane

Posted By IanD Thank you for the response Jane I am meeting with a rep to discuss carbon monoxide systems so it is an option that is available. Adam your situation seems to mirror the problem that I have and I will follow up this lead. Thank you Ian
