Posted By NatashaL Hi I have recently been looking to attend some training courses in H&S. I have done various courses and passed my NEBOSH General Certificate last year. I do know however that H&S changes all the time so would like to keep up to speed. I came across a IOSH Managing Safely re-certification course on a training website, it said that this course is recommended to be taken every 2 years. Can anyone advise if this is correct and if so does anyone know who would run this course in the Aberdeen area? Also if anyone could recommend any other courses they found useful. Thanks Natasha

Posted By Steve B I will be honest with you Natasha, the best way to keep up to speed with H&S is through working in the industry full time, a combination of CPD and reading all of the press SHP, Safety Management, visiting the HSE website etc. If you have not been working in H&S then maybe re-certification of managing safely would be ok, but you already have a higher qualification with the NGC. If you only did the NGC a year ago then forget the Managing safely course and go for a diploma. Hope this helps Regards Steve

Posted By Charley Farley-Trelawney Natasha There was a fairly extensive posting on Iosh MS courses recently on these very forums; I have had a quick look to find the link but can't quite find the one I refer to. Have a search and you will see what I mean; if you have the NNGC as recently as you say then I see little point in taking the MS course, you would be better considering a more extensive course to gain a further qualification. If it is just legislative changes you wish to stay on top of, I may be inclined to recommend you join IOSH and enjoy the read each month of SHP, it will have most of what you need. You may also wish to try either Kroner or Barbour (the latter rather expensive) for updated information. Sorry I can't help more. CFT

Posted By Ethne D'Arcy IOSH recommend that refresher training is undertaken every 3 to 4 years and the Managing Safely re-certification course is designed for those people who have taken the MS course and need bringing up to date on new legislation etc. If you have not already taken the MS course you will not be able to undertake the re-certification course Ethne D'Arcy

Posted By NatashaL Hi Thanks very much for your help with this. I have already completed the course back in 2004 i just wasnt sure if the cert expired or not aswell. In regards to having another H&S qualification apart from completing the Diploma are there any other routes to go down? Thanks again Natasha

Posted By garyh This is creeping in and I personally don't like it.........as a profession we keep up to date re CPD; if you are practicing you will keep up to date. Also note that other qualifications are for life - you don't retake a degree, diploma, NVQ etc. In short, training providors will love it - as will IOSH who will also benefit financially.
