Can anyone tell me what the Lux levels should be on a walkway on a construction site, I have recently taken readings and would like to know what they should be. I have ordered HSG 38 but I really need the answer today.
regards
Nigel

This may be a bit late for you as I have only just seen your request, on the basis it is not, please see information as follows:
'Movement of people machines and vehicles in hazardous areas' (not requiring perception of detail)Construction site, site clearance,excavation, loading areas etc. Average illuminance (lux)1x = 50
Limited perception of detail would = 100
Perception required =200
Full perception required on avarage illuminance = 500 more akin to detailed office work.
As you correctly identify HS (G) 38 will give you comprehensive details.
Check also Workplace HSW regs for additional information.
Sorry it is brief, I just wanted to give some basics to go on.
Take care

In addition to CFT's info;
Movement of people, machines and vehicles (Lorry park, corridors, circulation routes) average lux = 20. I think your walkway would come under the heading "circulation routes".
