Posted By Simon Ayee I have been contacted by our Environmental Health Copntaminated Land Officer regarding a contaminated land site (an acid tar lagoon + dumped barrels etc.) within the Borough. As part of our assessments for managing the risks to the public we need to assess the potential for and consequences of fire at the site. This may include sampling and analysyis of the chemicals contaminating the site, evaluating their interaction and risk of combustion (spontaneous or sources of ignition). Also the health risks from the products of combustion. I am waiting to hear from HSL but does anyone have experience of similar contaminated sites or can you recommend someone who does? Thanks Simon

Posted By Michael Sylvester Simon, I work for an EHS consultancy (ENVIRON UK Limited) who undertake this type of work and could carry out a contaminated land assessment to identify and quantify the materials present on the site. Please drop me a line if you would like to discuss the issues further. Thanks Michael
