Posted By Suey Hi All, Just looking for your views on the above. I'm of the view if they are painetd over they need to be replaced. Trying to get this confirmed. Our service covers a few diffrent Fire Authorities, 1 of which says yes, the others don't seem to know. Obviously if this is going to be recommended to management the cost needs to be justified. Thanks in advance.

Posted By Ashley Wood As a fire consultant I always say do not paint. Painting over the strips as this does reduce there effectiveness also they will give off fumes when heated.

Posted By TBC I'm with Ashley on this one. When they are installed they are as you see them - a safety device. Painting over them will take away that effectiveness and add to the spread of fume and fire. You will be in effect interfering with an item provided for fire protection and this could carry a fine of £5,000. That’s if the Fire Authority wants to press it home. You may even come across some insurance problems if they know of the paint job. So have them replaced by a competent company.
