I want to run some training for our apprentices on safety issues, constantly I am catching them without PPE and it's wearing me down.
I now want to show them the possible injuries they could suffer as a result of not wearing PPE.
Does anyone have a link to some images of industrial injuries. They will be warned prior to viewing them but they need to learn that it's not just the safety manager talking waffle.

Hi Homer
SafetyMedia have a very good range of Videos/DVDs on Horrific Accidents, cost £129 each but well worth the investment.
www.safetymedia.co.uk
Have used them myself, same situation as yourself at a previous company,
Setup was groups of 10 in a room, only words I said were........
The DVD you are about to see contains some images that you may find shocking and/or disturbing... in all cases they are real injuries with the exception of the staged sequence at the end.
Once it was over, there were a few white faces, I then asked if anyone still did not understand why the wearing of PPE was mandatory. After this never found anyone not complying with company policy. It became part of the company induction as well.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Darren

Show them a copy of ' Think What If Not If Only', the Ken woodward video by outtakes.co.uk
Ken had an industrial accident involving chemicals and lost his sight, sense of taste and smell, the video shows the effect the accident had on him, his colleagues and family.

Homer, it stikes me as odd that te supervisors are not involved here. . The apprentices are responsible for wearing the PPE that is issued to them. But it is their supervisors/managers who are responsible for ensuring that they wear the gear, not you. If you are constantly catching them out, have a word with the supervisors to find out what is going on, why they are not enforcing the wearing of PPE.
Include them on the training program.
All the training you provide the apprentices may be in vain if the ones responsible for supervising them think so little of the issue that they do not enforce it. If it is not enforced by their supervisors they are likely to adopt the view that what you say is indeed waffle.

Good afternoon all
The Ken Woodward video is an excellent video to show.
But even better after the video is have the man himself, come into the room and discuss his injuries and how they came about etc, etc
Did this about 4 years ago, and it was the most powerfull safety session i have been involved in.
Also agree that supervisors and managers should be involved with the monitoring of staff wearing PPE.

Homer,
I have sent you a presentation directly, showing ewhat can go wrong as well as a couple of images of how PPE actually prevented as serious injury ocurring. The images had previously been provided to me by a member of this forum. Unfortunately I cannot remember who it was, but my thanks goes to them once again. I just hope it proves as useful to you as it did me.
If anyone else wants a copy just ask (better to email me direct as I won't necessarily be following this thread).

Especially if you are in the petroleum industry, but even if not it is a good shock tactic, try to get hold of 'Remember Charlie' presented by the man himself when he talks for just under an hour of the consequences of not wearing the appropriate PPE and not following the method statement.
Everyone starts of listening and laughing... by the end they are listening and silent.

Simon
