Posted By James Byatt Morning All, Quick queery for you, Large student accommodation facility in Liverpool, shared gym facility on the ground floor. We're the landlord, have 24/7 site presence but no qualified gym-type bods to manage the gym. There is access control to the gym as students need a swipe card from reception to get in and out. Can we issue a 'written induction' of some description as opposed to your normal half-hour 'what do you want to get out of your time in the gym' type set up you get at your local leisure facility... I guess it comes down to instruction, information, supervision & training but this is not a workplace....it's a residents facility... Already thinking of a rules/best practice info sheet as well as the standard 'how to use this machine' poster. Anyone know where our duties start and end on this one? Thanks in advance, James

Posted By James Byatt Thanks Darren, I'll pass that on to the Hospitality Manager - I'm a big one for getting the local site teams to Manage safety themselves (always an uphill struggle!) and I'm assuming that as he's asked me the question, then he's exhausted his local contacts... Depends whether he rang up Virgin Active and said 'can I have copy of your corporate gym induction please guv'nor'! I guess my question is more about 'do we have to do one' as opposed to 'what would one look like...' Cheers James

Posted By Darren J Fraser James Assumption is the mother of all foul ups, chances are he has not even bothered to contact local gym's, just looked at it and said Health and Safety issue - nothing to do with me. Come across it all the time. Alternatively, contact them yourself, explain the situation and if cheeky enough ask for a tour of the facilities with the appointed H&S person and pump (excuse the pun)them for information, factsheets etc.
