Any welders out there?
Has anyone come across the moan from welders that wearing high-vis garments causes reflections up and under the welding mask - therefore, making seeing even more difficult?
True or false or is this just a typical welders moan?

in my previous life as a steel erecting site forman the only problem i ever encountered with high vis was it burning while welding from the spatter, anyway the welding screen should be close to the face to stop arc eye so there should be no reflection from the high vis clothing

YEP: it depends on what is being done where its being done etc and especially the quality to which the welders are working
With extensive experience re this area over many years, in very high quality [coded] welding situations even the slightest distraction can cause a failure re the 'bombing' results and as this failure can result in the welder being fired
[YEP fired and it IS legal!] they do not want needless distractions
Its not hard to manage such a situation
Irrespective of 'coded' welding situations any weld failure can result in a significant loss

In response to your second (now locked) thread "welding in the rain" I used to have a photo of a mine maintenance person on his back in a puddle of water seam welding under a bulldozer. His shoulder was on fire.
Must try to find it but it dates from about 1992. Before digital cameras.

I have been a welder for about 10 years. Trust them, when they tell you that it reflects. All metals reflect so high vis will. Plus what are they doing welding in anything other than fire retardent overalls.

From experience most welders whinge about anything....I'm a scaff by trade and on numerous occasions I've had welders asking me to lower a lift for them by 1-2". Like you say...a little welder...
