Posted By Kevin Edwards I am looking for a guantlet style glove which will give, all round protection to the hand, against sharps especially syringes. Most of the gloves I have seen only offer protection to the palm area of the hand, but I require the back of the hand to be protected as well. If anyone has any information they would be willing to share i would be most grateful.

Posted By Chris Packham This is an area in which I have spent considerable time. As far as I have been able to determine, there is no glove that provides full protection against sharps, such as needles, for the whole hand. The problem is simply that to provide full protection inevitably reduces dexterity. Whilst it is possible to provide palm and finger protection in this way, to cover the whole hand would result in a glove which would be so stiff that work would be impossible. The manufacturer (and as far as I am aware there is only one) has therefore concentrated on these areas as their studies showed that around 95% of all needle-stick injuries were in these areas. You do not explain why you need all over protection. Given that gloves are a last resort are there any other measures that could be taken to limit the risk? I have a contact who has specialised in this area. If you would like to contact him please e-mail or phone me direct and I will let you have details. Posted By Adrian Watson The question to ask is "what task does this person do, that requires them to wear gauntlets?" I suggest that if the task is collecting and removing sharps the best method is either a remote grabber or an electro-magnet on a stick! Regards Adrian Watson

Posted By lindz2001 What you need is a TurtleSkin Glove, whilst most, like you say only cover the palm they do a full coverage glove. If you require arm protection too, they also do a sleeve to protect from the wrist to elbow. Hope this helps. Have a look at www.turtleskin.co.uk.
