Posted By allan wood skimming over it with plaster is usually the quickest and easiest.
artex is notoriously difficult to remove even with steam!
once did a job at salford university removing artex in 2 13 storey student accomodation blocks, ALL the bathrooms, what a nightmare.

Posted By The toecap Thanks people. It is indeed called X tex. However, in Assy essentials it says i can use thick wallpaper paste. I may get both methods trialed

Posted By Salus Hi toecap the wallpaper paste is used only when you drill a hole into any suspect artex, not for the removal.
you place the wallpaper paste over where you want to drill, you then drill through the paste to prevent any fibre release.
