Does anybody know what the substance is that is used to remove textured coatings (artex)from ceilings? And where could i purchase it?

skimming over it with plaster is usually the quickest and easiest.

artex is notoriously difficult to remove even with steam!

once did a job at salford university removing artex in 2 13 storey student accomodation blocks, ALL the bathrooms, what a nightmare.

Thanks people. It is indeed called X tex. However, in Assy essentials it says i can use thick wallpaper paste. I may get both methods trialed

Hi toecap the wallpaper paste is used only when you drill a hole into any suspect artex, not for the removal.

you place the wallpaper paste over where you want to drill, you then drill through the paste to prevent any fibre release.

Sorry, yes. Instead of scraping it off with x tex we may use a small core drill to cut a bit out
