Posted By Rachael Palmer Have you had a look at the HSE website? www.hse.gov.uk . Use the search engine on the site and look for work related death - they have some documents in that section which may point you in the right direction. Have a look at the investigator guide to start, it indicates who is responsible for investigating which area. I believe there is also a leaflet about liasing with the family but I'm not sure if this is available from HSE or the police. Hope this helps Rachael

Posted By Salus Jus, depending on the size of your organisation. After attendance by first aider, fatalities should first be reported to the para medics / ambulance (the ambulance service may request the presence of the police) then contact the hse. Those in charge on site should immediately secure the area from visual and physical intrusion. Nothing should be moved or touched in the area. No equipment that was being used should be tampered with. The company should then be informed depending on heirachy, then inform your insurers. You may need additional procedures if your employees are working on another (clients) employers site Do not inform the next of kin,you will have to find out if (normal procedure is) the police / ambulance service and hospital will liase with each other to do this. Hopefully you will not have to go through your procedure
