Does anyone have experience of Managing SHE assurance systems (reporting to board level). If so please enlighten me in simple terminology - is this a fancy term for Safety and Environmental Management Systems Auduting?

Yes, SHE Assurance is essentially the systems that you have in place to provide an assurance to the board. Sometimes 'Assurance' can have a wider meaning and include all aspects of engineering delivery, quality and safety, depending on the business.
The board normally want clear and visible reporting to ensure that all risk to the business is identified and being managed correctly.
If you need anything else let me know.
All the best
Ian
