Good morning all,
I wonder if anyone can help on this subject. An airconditioning unit has been placed in an equipment room with loads of servers and radio equipment. tThe unit is supposed to stop a ups system kicking in. It has a condensation container which has been placed in between two of large electrical cabinets. The cabinets are only 12 ins apart and to empty the container a man has to get on his hands and knees to crawl into this space to disconnect the water container, pass it out to another person for it to be emptied. Apart from a non safe working system/practice surely there is some electrical regs or airconditioning regs that would forbid this. Can any expert throw light on the subject as to any H&S regs being broken, beside HSAW 3.1.
Thanks for your time

Complete nonsense the manner in which you have described. I would say to you there are two options bearing in mind I don't know what make of unit you have. I assume the condenser is the other side of the wall or on the roof/plant room etc, and the blower is wall or ceiling mount. Normally there would be an external pump wired in to remove the water when the leveller cuts in. In Server rooms and the like I prefer to eliminate the possibility of the unit soaking the equipment and causing much sparks, fire lost info etc.
These units can be easily adapted to have a permanent drain pipe such as over flow pipe that eventually joins a stack somewhere so you have a constant gravity situation for getting rid of liquid, its easy, safe and maintenance free, do ensure however if you fun into a stack that it is substantially trapped.
If you need more, or some photos of one in place email me and I will send you specifications.
