...but a little more would be nice, as usual.

Belfast Telegraph had OccHygenists and Health and Safety officers bracketed in at no.31 of earners in the UK. Average £31K.

Great to know you are below average. Spose it could have been worse.

The IOSH salary survey said average was £28k the last time I looked.

Have some of you guys in consultancy land cleared a few outstanding invoices and skewed the entire bell curve for everyone.

Come on Merv, was it you, did the fois gras expenses finally clear?

My expenses always clear. I'm the guy that approves company expenses.

This said, we quote estimated hotel expenses up front. Room rate plus 50% for the evening meal.

Take the main course, apperatif, bottle of wine, coffee and your about right.

Build that into the contract : day rate x N plus mileage plus hotel (N+1) Comes out allright for us.

Then add VAT

We have found that accountants are quite happy to approve estimated expenses and do not like "day rate plus". The signed order is most likely to come back as "day rate".

Cheers Merv for the lesson in eating and accountancy.

I was in Brussels last weekend, will be in StFlour Central Massif in a couple of weeks.

In brussels on the first night I had pigs trotters (drunk man's French fiddle as my Dad called them) followed by flank of beef (medium) and Ils Flotantes avec creme anglaise for dessert. I thought I had died gone to heaven and come back as an overweight safety person.

Not on expenses that lot but it was very reasonable about £30 including beer and wine.

I could stick that once a week for the rest of my life especially if someone else was paying for it.
