Posted By Tony Brunskill Following on from another thread it has come to light that some members might be interested in an "Online" Branch. the initial thoughts are that we could utilise something along the lines of Skype/MSN/Netmeeting/Other to allow an online "Branch" to meet regularly or perhaps allow "Specialist Groups" to come together in a live forum.
The reponses to the idea are positive thus far. Now we neeed to know if there is a genuine and wide interest in such a facility. Therefore I would ask you cast a vote - "Yes" for a genuine interest, "No" if you would not use such a facility.
Technical comments can be included if you so wish but please start your response with your vote. i.e Yes or No.
Thaks
Tony

Posted By Peter Hamilton YES YES YES. When you live 50 miles from the nearest branch venues, a virtual branch would be very useful. I agree with the outline proposed. With the latest windows live messenger and a decent DSL broadband connection it is possible to have voice, written or video conversations with ease.

I presume you could attend the virtual branch as well as a local one? Yes?

Posted By Advanced Safety Hi
I currently sit on a local branch committee, and could possibly forward any seminar handouts (where they are electronic) to an online branch, if one was formed. I could run it past my local branch at our next meeting.

Excellent isea for those of us too busy to attend normal meetings. CPD would have to be really sorted out as it may be too easy to gain points.

Posted By Martyn Hendrie There could be a limit to the number of CPD points that could be claimed (e.g no more than x% of the overall points needed in the cycle)

If I've told you once I've told you a million times to stop exaggerating.
I'll bet you'd get there if it was a fire evacuation drill for those two people in the portacabin :-)

Posted By R Joe Another YES - and another question / thought:- a similar logic applies to Specialist Groups I think. Should they also go 'virtual' so that more members could be involved much more easily?

Posted By Merv Newman Can't vote twice. Clip-board fits nicely into prepared slot in boot of rover 75. Next to safety shoes, hard hat, ear defenders, chemical goggles, hi-vis vest and kevlar gloves. Tweed jacket (no elbow patches) hangs on hanger over the back seat.
Ho hum. Back to work after the hols. We're off to Normandy today : Tripe and shell fish. Then it's Bourge en Bresse (famous for the chicken with blue feet)

Posted By Joe Ayre All, After discussion, the moderators have decided to lock this thread as it is in breach of Acceptable Use Guideline 2 which states: Users must not use the forums for any commercial purpose (including the advertising of jobs, goods and services), or operate surveys, contests or chain letters, or promote causes or campaigns… We would be happy for a discussion on this subject to continue in the membership issues forum, being mindful of the fact that duplicating a similar ‘vote yes / no’ survey of opinion is not acceptable. Should you wish to be granted access to this Members only forum, please follow the instructions in part 6 of the help section. http://www.iosh.co.uk/in....cfm?go=faq.members_only Best wishes, Joe Ayre, Web Administrator (Temp)
