Posted By D Whitelegg On the way in this morning I read in the paper that Bristol City Council have told thousands of tenants to remove doormats from outside their homes because of the danger they may trip over them! Looks like another "own goal" for sensible health and safety?

Posted By Diane Thomason This was being discussed on the radio too. Apparently this is ordinary tenanted accommodation and the tenants are being told that the corridors are an escape route and doormats would be an obstruction, and are also a trip hazard. The tenants are none too pleased. Nicky Campbell and the person he was interviewing (representing the tenants) were predictably scathing. It does sound like an own goal. It would be interesting to hear some more detail justifying the council's decision, but on the surface it looks like a scared-of-being-sued one.
