Posted By Robert K Lewis Bob I have yet to see such a beast, and it will have to be one to deal with the volume of fumes emitted by the flame gun. There are also the practicalities of it being highly mobile for normal use. I will watch this space with interest however as I think something needs to be done urgently on this. Bob

Posted By Descarte Presume this is being conducted outside? Also presume you have conducted suitable monitoring showing that personel are being exposed to a substance above the OEL for an 8hr period? or TWA Organise work so it is conducted into the direction of the wind? Large industrial fans can also be used to dilute / blow fumes away from employees could this be possible?

Posted By Bob Youel The area that I am more concerned with is environmental law and especially drift and its effects which can fall under HSWA74 etc as against H&S law generally e.g. COSHH so personal dosea are secondary re the question However thanks for the input and I was correct in assuming that not such equip exists/ or is used - There must be an opening there for a manufacturer

Posted By Martyn Hendrie As this operation is "normally" carried out in open air and you have stated that COSHH issues are secondary, you main concern is environmental, where would you have this equipment discharge to? To prevent environmental emmission would there have to be some storage arrangement, or passage through scrubbers/filters? I am trying to get my head round what type of equipment you are looking for.

Posted By Stupendous Man Sorry, but I am struggling with the following: 'environmental law and especially drift and its effects which can fall under HSWA74' Since when has environmental law been anything to do with our beloved umbrella act? Or am I missing something?

Posted By RP Burning off the yellow paint has the most risk from lead fumes, the white thermoplastic does not contain significant amounts. Operatives should carry out this operation using full RPE and the area cordoned off to prevent members of the public being put at risk. http://www.rsma.org.uk/site_home.html

Posted By Chris Pope Road markings can be ground off with a diamond grinding device mounted onto a roadsweeper, but waste disposal costs are crazy ! There used to be a specialist here in Taunton, but he seems to have disappeared just lately.
