Posted By GavinR Hi, Just wondering if anyone can offer me any additional assistance with regard researching warehouse and logistics health and safety issues. I have sourced some very good info from HSE website, my own past experiences with regard to this area of health and safety and some google searches but just wondered if anyone could point me the direction of any other good websites, books or other sources of information to assist my research. I'm looking at additional things to be considered and new approaches to managing risk and people in these environments that maybe i may have missed. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers, Gavin

Posted By Monica Barnett Often Safety professionals introduce policies/procedures without properly consulting management or workers in the operation and then produce fancy documents that are never read. Key to successful H&S in these environments is to 'get your hands dirty'. Risk Assessments will identify areas of concern which will then prompt the direction of your research. Talking to staff and observing how they work will best direct any training etc.

Posted By Barry Faulkner I agree with the previous remark. I am a Trade Union Education FE Tutor at Ruskin College Oxford and work primarily in the logistics sector with the United Road Transport Union I teach Health and Safety courses on a regular basis and find one of the major issues in workplaces is the lack of worker involvement in the risk assessment process. Far too often Employers allow Safety Officers to conduct Risk Assessments without any direct contact with the workers actually doing the jobs.
