Can someone help me here?
I would like to know more about what the five years experiance should look like that goes along with the academic qualification.
Prior to my present role of Health &
Safety Manager (for one year) my preivoius experiance came from Building Services work within the Construction Industry and covered H&S of site operatives and contractors etc.
My responsibilities and duities coverd the Design / estimating, risk assessments and tender submision through to project management including working processes, procedures, work place inspections, work permits, working at height, PPE, exposures, and all things that come with construction site work.
These duties commenced from picking up the tender information including the CDM regulation H&S documents to the completion of the project and production of the Operation, Maintenance and H&S Manual.
I hope this thread is picked up and someone who applied for TechIOSH with my back ground and can advise or throw some light on this subject.
Infact any help from any one would be very very much approciated.
Regards
Paul

Paul, if I was cynical I would say, pay your 'research, to see if you are worthy fee', which is incidentally, non-returnable if you are not the chosen one and send it all off in a nice brown envelope (remember large letters need bigger value stamps now)!
Then, when the hierarchy and 'we are not worthy' 'powers that be' have passed a critical eye over your application form, you'll hopefully be selected to join the 'Club'! Beware, dress code does apply!
For many are called: Few are chosen'
PS. If I wasn't cynical I'd say you have no problem!

Paul. I have recently applied, and been accepted, for Tech IOSH membership. The 5 years experience does not have to be full time. I would say that you qualify on experience, so as long as you have also passed the NEBOSH Nat. Gen. Cert. then I would say you will have no problems.
Go for it.
Stephen.

I have just gained techIOSH status.
I have the required five years(more actually)and I just listed my experiences and enclosed my job description and time currently spent on health and safety countersigned by my manager and that was that.

Paul,
Speak to the IOSH membership department before submitting your application, they will be able to advise you. If you have at least 5 years in a health and safety role, which doesn't have to be full-time, then you should be OK. It is also worth bearing in mind that it isn't a one-off chance to become a Technician Member, if your experience currently falls a bit short of the five years, you can join as Affiliate and ask for a regrading when it does.
