Posted By Lynne Ainge I am surprised that there is nothing on this topic so far. If there is anyone who has any advice on what they have implemented in a healthcare setting to reduce needlestick injury that occurs after use but before disposal I would be interested to hear from you. I work in a large acute Trust and it is an issue for us, particularly around new Junior Dr changeover periods. I cannot work this out as I presume that needle safety is something that would be covered in each hospital they go to. Lynne Ainge Lead H&S Advisor Norwich

Posted By Ian Blenkharn There is much more information in other more specific locations. See the British Medical Association, Royal College of Nursing and Infection Control Nurses Association websites, the Clinical Waste Discussion Forum, the Deparment of Health. See also the US sites of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and others. Each has a wealth of very specific information, and will put you in contact with those who have specific experience in this area. Ian

Posted By Anwar Afzal Hi Lynne I am surprised you do not have any procedures for this already, considering the risk in needlesticks. Can you confirm what type of clientel group you have, what risks have you identified then i may be able to help you. I look after hostels, elderly schemes etc and have developed a procedures based upon the type of clients such as drug users, diabetics etc etc.
