Posted By BURNLEY F.C. Please could anyone help me with a site project I have taken on board? I am looking at Site vehicle movements and speed. With increased productivity we have more FLT movement and more pedestrian movements. We have a segregated walkway for access to the canteen but pedestrians have to cross a FLT route via a floor painted crossing. Could anyone give me any ideas that they have put in place to reduce the risk of an accident occurring?

Posted By Malcolm Hogarth Burnley, You could consider barriers along the route with simple gates adjacent to the crossing that the pedestrians must open inwards. This causes them to stop rather than walk straight into a traffic route. You will also consider additional information and training of truck drivers regarding speed limits, awarness of the crossing etc. You might even think about signs. These are my thoughts for what they are worth. Malcolm

Posted By GPS Hello there, In a previous life we had similar issues you have mentioned. We found it easy to control pedestrians but it was the FLT drivers 'speeding' we found harder. Yes we set rules and discplinary actions for offenders caught, but this really did not work. So we arranged a chicane using speed bumps. This forced them to use the route prescibed and at a speed that better controlled the risk.
