I don't know if any of you can point me in the right direction but....I am a member of the reserve armed forces and we currently occupy what they describe as transit accommodation. The military guidlines state that the minimum space standard per bed space is 5.8m square. We have estimated that we are provided apprx 4.5m square per bunk bed (ie per 2 bed spaces). We also feel that the bunk beds provided, without any ladders or safety rails on the top bunk are unsafe, some time ago the chairs that were used to stand on to get into the top bunk were taken away due to H&S and now people just have to climb in and jump out !!
A complaint has been made but the response so far is-if you dont like it, dont come.
Are any of you aware of any legislation that can be quoted to help our cause ???
TIA

Have you tried bringing this up with your Unit HSWA? Get him to raise it with the chain of command or failing that you could raise it with the Garrison/Station HSWA or let one of your safety reps mention it at a meeting where it will have to be minuted. If all else fails go onto the MOD website and send an e-mail to the dept dealing with MOD H&S (DS&C or CESO(A)). If your still not happy raise it again in this forum.
Be aware that transit accom is just for the use of soldiers visiting and is pretty low in the priority list.

Thank you will do,
We are aware that transit accommodation is way down any list of priorities but think that they should at least comply with minimum space standards that are laid down and also to comply with H&S issues.
