Posted By garyh I have recently come into a post in which my organisation has a lot of overlap between EQ&S systems. One central item is a legislation register - it is a spreadsheet which lists all applicable legislation. Naturally it is a nightmare to maintain. My question is, is this really necessary (for maintaining registration to 9002,14001,18001 etc). My approach would be to state that we comply with relevant legislation and stay up to date by subscribing to the various alert and information services. What are other people's experiences?

Posted By Jonathan Breeze My past experience of this (9001 & 14001) has been that it depends very much on the external auditor in question and their interpretation of the requirement of the standard. Sorry if this doesn't help very much!

Posted By Robert K Lewis When auditing I expect you to identify the relevant significant legislation to your business. A simple catch all statement could suggest that you are not sure what applies and therefore how can you be ensuring you meet the standards. The clause in both systems, 14001 and 18001, also expect you to be able to identify the "other requirements" applicable which could be such as internal company standards, group standards, recognised industry codes of practice, customer specifications etc. It may be that your spreadsheet is trying to be a catch all. If so then radically review its content. Bob
