I am having the worst week of my life so far. It started when I had an accident at work. Some heavy stock fell into my back and kidney and I ended up at the hospital for two days. I had to be checked out as I already have kidney problems but thankfully I am now back at work doing office duties although on reduced pay.
Then I have found out my fish have got white spot, So I am probably going to lose them all as well like the last time they contracted this.
Then to top it all I was given a work chair which was provided to me to carry out my office work and was very comfortable in fact it was the mutts nuts but my Manager has decided that the chair is too good for a minion and has taken it for his own use and has given me with a plastic garden chair to use.
My question is can my Manager do this.
PS Is there anyone else having a bad week?

Depends,
Are you a gnome? Do you have a fishing rod, are you fishing for an answer. The answer is yes, the answer is yes it is his chair.

well, i am not sure if this is some sort of "comedy" post, but i will give it the benefit of the doubt!
light duties, such as your office work, is a tactic of management to avoid reporting of three day injuries. the chair? it should be adjustable for hight and have an adjustable backrest-garden chairs are not acceptable. (but you know this, dont you?)
and fish? get a cat! will get rid of white spot AND fish!

Shy Teddy,
I am deeply troubled by your bad week and hope that you will be able to overcome the disaster of the dreaded Ichthyophthirius with regards to your poikilothermic water-dwelling vertebrate with gills. I understand that they are not found of a bit of salty solution whilst in free swimming phase. We will await news over the next 6 weeks or so.
With regards you renal problems, I hope you are to recover without too much distress, you don't say whether this an acute or chronic probelem or at what stage you are and so it is not possible to comment further.
Lastly we come to the chair, yes he can and this is clearly demonstrated by the fact that he is sitting on it and not you. You will have to complete a risk assessment in order to determine the correct chair for your special needs. If you google on "chairs to get over a bad week" I think you will find what you are looking for.
Personally I find a large G&T or replying to posts on the cusp of Friday help quite a lot.
Get well soon.
Pete. ARBEOF. ULT. LOL

Darren,
Using light duties doues not provide a get out clause for reporting accidents the regulations specifically state return to normal duties or report.

Sorry for the bad week - we have an empty fish tank in our kitchen just because of a similar problem.
On the more pertinent point surely this is a major injury if you had to spend two days in hospital after the incident, so the worries about light duties and avoiding reporting should not come into it. Although I assume a risk assessment was done to check these duties were suitable for your medical condition?
Here's hoping life improves over the next week.

Don't get a cat to eat the fish - it might get ill - think of the vets bills and your week will get really, really bad.

Get back to work you idler. We have two kidneys just to compensate for this type of circumstance. If you need a chair to work, bring your own.
Grill the fish now and cut away the bad bits.
Seems like Friday is growing back towards Thursday.

tony, i never said it was a get out clause...i was just pointing out that some employers, especially in places without sick pay schemes, will offer light duties to try and get around reporting. i know what the regs state, as i often have to quote them to my employer, to ensure that injuries are reported.
