I'm working on a project for a certain large Anglo-Dutch oil and gas operator and have in front of me a document which lists a number of HS&E related acronyms relating to hazard management tools and techniques, e.g. PTW, HAZID, HAZOP, most of which I'm fully familiar with. However - also listed is something called 'FRED' which I've never come across before. Grateful if anyone can shed some light on this - and sensible answers will be very much appreciated please (shame I have to put that but I know there's a risk of a highly surreal thread developing as a result of my question).

Thanks - but apparently not. Since my initial posting I have found the answer. It stands for 'Fire, Release, Explosion, and Dispersion'.

Andrew,
But Release precedes Fire.
It shud be RFED, don't you think?
Barely matters.

The best one I've seen is for working in confined spaces.
Avoid - Risk assess - Secure - Evacuate.
