Can anyone recommend a good fire safety DVD that I can use as part of induction process.
Also looking for similar on working at height/roof work and a general catch all safety awareness induction DVD.
No doubt I will now be inundated with cold calls but this is a genuine requirement.
Many thanks

Not sure if it is available on DVD but the film clip of the Bradford fire brings the message home.

I assume that your induction is just for basic fire safety in which case there is no need for an outside specialist to 'cold call'.
My personal opinion on DVD training is that it is ok as part of the training but must not form the sole means of training. One to one induction where you must explain what they must do if they discover a fire and on hearing the fire alarm. You must also physically walk all the secondary exit routes with them that they might expect to use otherwise people tend to shy away from routes they are not familiar with. You must show them the location of manual call points, fire extinguishers and anything else that may be relevant to your particular organisation. None of this will be covered on a generic DVD.
I would emphasise the need to explain what they do if they discover a fire. Only a couple of weeks ago I triggered an evacuation drill in the City. I picked on a member of staff told them they had discovered a fire and told them to take the appropriate action. I told them they must treat it as if it were real with the exception of dialling 999. It took 5 minutes before they found and operated the fire alarm. You will be surprised how many staff do not actually know what to do if they were put on the spot. It is such a serious failing and management constantly tell me they have provided their staff with training.

Hi Homer
Safety Media do a good around DVD with 4 videos on it and fire is one of them. Contact them on 01745 536170 or website www.safetymedia.co.uk.
If my memory serves me well I think it was around £300 for the whole DVD.

Hi Homer
I can recommend 'The Burning Question' by Fire Training Videos Ltd. (Google will pick them up) It is a DVD but before you play it they start with a questionnaire that the attendees fill in before you start. About 20 questions which they try and answer to see what they already know/guess. The DVD then gives them the answers and explains why. Hope this makes some sense, the questionnaire is on their website from memory and it is quite good as it is a bit different. Rest of stuff about local procedures etc. already posted is of course important.
