Hi. Sorry Kieran but I rally don't see how you can question my professional competence on the basis of my posting. the key is DOES his condition (overweight) = he can't do his work without adversely compromising his her other safety. that is what my point was. If e doesn't, whilst I am not averse to offering advice, encouragement etc. I just can't see how as an H&S professional I can "make" him or anyone else change to a healthier life style. hat I believe is what i said and i stand by it. I think you are being more than a tad judgemental and i believe unrealistic in the power of an H&S officer.. competent or not in your eyes, to address what is in essence a personal choice by this employee.
Cheers.

I regret that you misinterpreted what I wrote.
I made an enquiry (which others answered validly) and have neither information nor motivation to comment in any way about your competence.

pugwash,
Fair comment. I was sort of summarising or generalising. What I was saying was that I don't want people to get hurt, become ill or die because of their job. I want to ensure that YOU live a long, happy, healthful life.
Maybe I'm lucky in that I have never known one of my people to suffer more than the odd cut, burn, bruise or, at the worst, a fracture.
But I have been called in after fatals and after fires which could have cost the lives of dozens. I have worked with fire officers who cried when recounting the facts. I have witnessed a fatal heart attack and could do nothing to help.
(swear word) I weigh 10 stone. if you weigh 20 stone then I have some concerns for you life expectancy. Can I offer you some advice ?
Merv
