Afternoon
Any guidance and comments would be appreciated and sorry if I have missed something glaringly obvious.
The DSE Regulations say amongst other things that the chair of a work station must have an adjustable back rest, both in height and angle of tilt.
Is this still a requirement if the chair were to be used in an IT room in a college for students ranging in ages where lessons could be at the most about 2 hours?
Reason being is that the boss wishes some specific chairs to be bought for the IT room but the back of these type of chairs does not tilt.
Am I right in pointing her to this specific part of the DSE Regulations or do they not apply as the use will be by students?
Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark
The DSE Regulations apply to employees at work and thus do not strictly apply to students. However, clearly it would be good practice to have them sitting correctly when they are using the computers, but as they are only using them for a maximum of two hours, it is not vital to have chairs with backs that will tilt.
