Hi Naomi

I work in retail but we do not have travelators, only escalators.

When considering a risk assessment you need to look at the following:

What is the hazard or hazards ? If it is moving then clearly that speaks for itself.

In terms of risk, what is the liklihood of being injured whilst it is moving and you are cleaning it...? Spillage of cleaning fluids/products through the floor onto the electrics underneath...? Disorentation of cleaner if the thing is still moving...?

Speak to the manufacturers for guidance on suggested ways of undertaking the task.

Switch it off maybe?

At least it is horizontal i suppose, unlike an escalator, so risk of injury from height is pretty much ruled out, so no need to do a WAH risk assessment.

Just some things to ponder

Thanks for the info, the travalater is not horizontal though, it is the same as an escalator the difference being you can take your shopping trolley on it!

Do you use a specialist vac to clean it?
