Posted By Jonathan Sandler CMIOSH get onto the suppliers and ask for the coshh data sheet, Isocyanates is normally produced when heating the paint and the fumes given off is contained in the gases. The paint is normally lead based. Regards
As far as testing is concerned then any good testing lab, companies who test for railway employees can advise. Blood testing. Regards

Posted By Dean Cross Have you looked at their exposure?
Conduct some air monitoring surveys to see if they are actually exposed to the isocyanate.
If they are not exposed, due to your control measures, then do you have to carry out the health surveillance?

Posted By Descarte Im sure GPS if he has been conducting urine sampling then he has looked at exposure levels, COSHH assessments and personal monitoring. RPS do Isocyanates - http://www.rpsplc.co.uk/...27B7646&secid=experienceCompany I worked for in the past conducting isocyanite monitoring for major companies like Jaguar were called FaberMaunsel and are based in the Manchester area. We mainly did personal monitoring, ambient and stack monitoring but im sure if you asked they would be able to source some biological monitoring / testing for you or at least point you in the direction of labs which they have used (though likely to be RPS) Hope this is of more help.

When you say the cost has risen significantly do you mean the HSE lab's charge for testing for amine products in urine. I would be surprised if this were the case since to my knowledge they have not increased their charges for this test since they introduced it in 1996.

Posted By Kate Jones, Health & Safety Laboratory The Health & Safety Laboratory does not seek to make a profit - it's analysis charges are to cover costs. The price of urine testing for isocyanates has not increased for the last three years at least. Urine testing for isocyanate exposure, where control relies on respiratory protection, is recommended by HSE for checking that exposure to isocyanates is properly controlled. Further information can be found at www.hse.gov.uk/mvr

Posted By steve adcock in response to your query on iso have you not asked the hse labs to do a sample test. they did one for our company free of charge. as for Mr sandlers answer lead is only found as chromate in the pigments, also hdi and mdi are found in any polyurethane paints especially 2pack polyurethane paints which are iso cured in any condition not heated iso is in the vapor and mist not gases
