I recently attempted to enrol on a Nebosh Fire Risk Management Certificate course and was told that I could not be exempt from the first part (management of H+S)unless I had completed the NEBOSH General Certificate within 5 years. The fact I had completed the NTU diploma in SHEM within the last three did not count.Nebosh say it is was decided by QCA and they could not help. If this is the case does this not undermine the CPD principle of having more than one route to develop ones profession.Does anyone have any views and advice for alternative courss

Posted By Hazel Harvey Phil, I am not an absolute expert here but I believe you can take the 'Fire' Management module without having the Part A of the NEBOSH Certificate. However, under QCA rules you could not be awarded a 'Fire Certificate' as you had not completed the whole qualification. You would be given a 'Module certificate' I believe. If it wasn't NEBOSH HQ you checked with I would suggest that it might be agood idea to contact them directly occasionaly the rules do get mis-interpreted.Sometimes the mode of delivery may cause the problem (the provider intermingles the modules in teaching and can't seperate it out). IOSH actually offer a 2 day 'Fire Risk Assessment' course which is designed for people with higher level OSH qualifications, this might suit you better. Have a look in 'Courses and Events' to the left of the page in the CPD programmes bit (page 37).
