Posted By John T Does anyone have the contact details for the Northern Ireland branch as all I can find is a contact name (Philip McAleenan, the branch Secretary) but there are no links for Email's, telephone numbers or even address details listed.
I am starting out on a new career in Health and Safety (Nebosh General and Fire Cert so far, Environmental Dip next year) and would like to broaden my horizons.
I am sure branches vary from branch to branch but I would appreciate input as to what benefits you have found if you attend them?
Thanks,
John

Posted By Jonathan Carrick John,
1. Log in to this website. 2. Go to Search Forums from the top right frame. 3. In Member name, type Philip's name. 4. Search on All postings for All years.
Any postings that Philip has made will show the email address which he has made available to members.
Hope that makes sense - good luck!
Jon

Posted By John T That was very helpful thanks, I have sent him an email.
Would still be interested in other peoples opinions of their own regional branches and what they offer.

Posted By Jonathan Carrick You're welcome for that John.
To answer your other question, I have belonged to two branches as I've moved around the country.
Both have been extremely helpful for keeping up with current developments and networking - the latter being where you realise that you are not alone and that we all have similar problems to face and mountains to climb.
I would strongly recommend joining a local branch.

Posted By Martin Devlin Welcome John, I too am from Northern Ireland. I have only ever attended one IOSH Branch meeting in the 8 years that I have been a member. They were usually in one of the two cities of Derry or Belfast and just were not easily accessible for me at the time.I haven't heard anything from them lately. They seem to have gone quiet.
I do believe that there is a Branch meeting in the North West Institute in Londonderry on the 12th December 2006,at 2pm(saw it on the IOSH website somewhere),, but so far no one has invited or informed me so I do not know what is happening.

Posted By B Smart Hi John T,
I think you have highlighted a few improvement opportunities for the NI Branch. The development of a website for the branch could be the answer. Any other members of the branch interested?

Posted By Philip McAleenan Good morning all, especially members of the NI Branch, and those who would wish to become members of the branch. Though there has only been a couple of postings to this thread from branch members, both suggest that they are out of the loop with regard to being informed of branch activities.
The NI Branch has launched a substantial program of activities for 2006 – 2007 not least being work to ensure that next year, our 40th anniversary year, is one that will be celebrated both in style and substance with a look back to what the branch has achieved and where it will lead the membership in the future. We will be joining with our colleagues in the Ireland branch who will be celebrating 25 years.
Branch meetings have been restructured and will for the most part take the form of a seminar on a diverse range of topics to ensure that the meetings have relevance to all members, for example in October the theme was Fire Risk assessment presented by Asst Group Cmdr Gerry Toman of the Fire Service, Forthcoming seminars include the new Temporary Traffic Management guidelines, Noise and vibration, and Construction.
We have also launched a schools project whereby every member is encouraged to visit their local schools with an offer to give a presentation to school leavers and students going on work placement.
Branch members will have received two e-mails since September the first detailing the 2006 2007 program of activities and the second the minutes of the last branch meeting complete with a summary of the Fire Risk assessment presentation, (this is also posted on the branch web-site, see branches on the side bar). If you have not received this e-mail, contact Leicester to ensure that HQ has your current e-mail address, as they are responsible for ensuring that any correspondence from the branch to members are e-mailed directly.
If you have any queries about the branch or its activities, e-mail me by clicking my name (above) and I will respond directly to you,
So, if you want to improve the branch come along to our next meeting on 12th December in the North West Institute in Derry. We are always looking to for volunteers to undertake different tasks in the branch,
Regards, Philip
