Hi there,

Could anyone inform me what are the MAJOR changes under the new CDM Regulations for principle contractors?

Any help appreciated.

In many senses very little except that now the client has to ensure welfare arrangements are adequate, specifically we may see more pressure to get them right from day one of a project. We may also, however, remember that they are PrinciPAL contractors.

I hope we also see the end of the client or PC suddenly pressuring the groundworker to become the PC during the early phase of work. After all if the groundworks go over 30 days or 500 operative days then it must be a separate notifiable project - hence a separate contract negotiation. I think it is an abuse that the HSE will soon come to grips with. Yes I know that the PC role can be transferred during the project but it still has to be with due regard to planning and preparation time.
