Posted By Brian Sutherland I work for a medium sized construction company undertaking mainly refurbishment and maintenance work activities, which contracted out the asbestos awareness training in the past. I've just written an Asbestos Awareness Course and in addition to the interactive sections I have included I would like to play a short video.
The cunumdrum; there are numerous ones for sale including the HSE's own.
The Q: Which one have you used which you would recommend?
Thanks in advance.

Posted By JPK Haven't seen nor used this video so cant comment on this particular one. But all the documentation, powerpoint displays and handouts I use are from ABICS which I have found extremely comprehensive.
Good Luck

Posted By Rachel West Hi:
Is it acceptable to provide inhouse Asbestos Awareness training? I was under the impression that training should be from a Training Provider registered with the HSE. Can someone set me right on this one?
Thanks!

Posted By Paul Oliver In-house training is acceptable and should follow the guidance given in CAR 2006
126 Asbestos awareness training is required to be given to employees whose work could foreseeably expose them to asbestos. In particular, it should be given to all demolition workers and those workers in the refurbishment, maintenance and allied trades where it is foreseeable that their work will disturb the fabric of the building because ACMs may become exposed during their work. Exemption from this requirement would apply only where the employer can demonstrate that work will only be carried out in or on buildings free of ACMs. This information should be available in the client’s asbestos management plan. 127 This training should cover the following topics in appropriate detail, by means of both written and oral presentation, and by demonstration as necessary: (a) the properties of asbestos and its effects on health, including the increased risk of lung cancer for asbestos workers who smoke; (b) the types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos and ACMs in buildings and plant; (c) the general procedures to be followed to deal with an emergency, for example an uncontrolled release of asbestos dust into the workplace; and (d) how to avoid the risks from asbestos, for example for building work, no employee should carry out work which disturbs the fabric of a building unless the employer has confirmed that ACMs are not present.

Posted By Dave Wilson The basic requirements are that if your job involves disturbing the building fabric then Asb Awarness training is required.
You can use whoever you like, however if you use someone from the HSE list they have signed up to the ATPWG Code of Conduct to deliver this in accordance with L127 Acop and are audited to the standard, and if you do not you are removed.
For instance if you use a trainer who is not IPAF etc for MEWP then how do you know you are getting the quality which covers all the requirements?
