Posted By Nigel Thomas Hi all Is there any difference in the frequency that fire alarm tests are carried out if you have a sprinkler system or not and is there a set frequency.
Thanks.

Don't know which industry your in but the info you need is contained within the Fire Safety Risk Assessment guides. Check out the guide to factories and warehouses page 55, Section 2.5.
The guidance states "All types of fire-warning systems should be tested once a week. For electrical systems a manual call point should be activated (using a different call point for each successive test" it gives the reason for this as "This will check that the control equipment is capable of receiving a signal and in turn, activating the warning alarms".
Hope this answers your question.

Posted By Ashley Wood The fire alarm has nothing to do with the sprinkler system. Fire alarm tests are weekly as per BS5839 Pt-1 2002. Generally, the sprinkler is in place to save the insurer a lot of money, the alarm system is there to save lives! Sometimes a sprinkler is used as part of a life safety strategy, but in the main its to stop a fire getting to big.
Hope that helps
Best regards
Ashley
