Posted By Margia Hi -
Not sure if anyone can help with this as it's not directly a safety query. As part of our lone worker management system, we issue mobile phones which incorporate a GPS tracker to workers who are out and about and in contact with the public. We have a policy on when/how they are to be used, but we now want a protocol to cover when/how the phone records can be used to monitor employees' geographical position (e.g. as part of disciplinary procedures, to prove someone was in the bookies when they were supposed to be visiting a client).
This got dumped on me to prepare a draft, and since I promptly forgot about it, and since my boss now needs said draft for a meeting in January, and since I can't find anything suitable on the Internet ... does anyone have a policy like this that I could pinch? Many thanks.

Posted By anon1234 This is clearly an HR and not an H&S issue - if you are unionised, and if you are a local authority as I suspect then you probably are, this is something that would definately need their involvement to avoid a major employee relations issue.
However the general concept is covered usually via the disciplinary processes

Posted By Philby' Margia,
'we' are currently working on a policy and the provision of same/similar lone working equipment.....two points I can make:
as previously advised by anon, stick to the H&S elements and leave the position monitoring policy to HR, it is a minefield
all the providers we have spoken to state the accuracy for gps is good but not that good for the standard type gps phones, and if you are an LA, then you wont be paying out for all singing all dancing ones
so spotting the staff memeber going into the bookies, or the church next door, and proving it may be a challenge....besides, they can always switch it off for half hour
Philby'
PS...could I possibly have a ganders at your policies, re loneworking...quite happy to share what we have at the moment, although its a bit like topsy, (the more we research the more gets included), it just grew!
Philby
