Posted By David Bannister Does anybody know the recommended frequency for inspection and test of an external lightning conductor on a building? The particular building is a City Centre block, no higher than its surrounding structures. My "gut feeling" is for an annual visual check of condition (from ground level using binoculars) plus a 5-yearly continuity test by a competent person. If this was a new-build I doubt whether any special protection would be deemed necessary but as it's there it may as well be maintained. Remember, if staying sober, be careful - there's loads of drunks out there. Happy Christmas to all who celebrate, Happy Hols to all others.

Posted By Steve Holliday David, There is a British Standard (BS 6651) concerned with lightning conductors. The information you require may be contained within this BS. Steve

Posted By Bill Elliott David - according to the BRE Digest 428 Protecting Buildings against Lightening - the recommended inspection is 12 monthly and again ASAP after a strike. The inspection should include: signs of damage; the physical condition; signs of corrosion; sample the earth terminations; all in acordance with BS 6651. Regards
