I am under the assumption that this can be carried out as long as there is a 6 metre radius between the truck and pedestrian

Rank: Guest		Posted By R Joe Ian, not sure where the 6m rule comes from, but the issue here will be what constitutes a 'safe system of work' in the context of foreseeable risks (that - as ever - your risk assessment should identify). From experience, I'd say that pedestrians and trucks do not mix, and foreseeably it will only be a matter of time before the 6m rule falls into disuse and/or circumstances arise where it is not met in practice - all of which will become all too obvious with the benefit of hindsight, and the local EHO on your shoulder, in the event of an accident. Even with a no pedestrian and truck in the same aisle at the same time rule, the quality or training (including verifiable records), monitoring (ditto) and enforcement (ditto) is essential. Another important aspect is two trucks in the same aisle at the same time; where as well as truck to truck collision, there is the foreseeable risk of one driver dismounting and being hit by the other truck. On the subject of narrow aisle racking generally, you may also find that your local EHO may have expectations about keeping sufficient space free in the lower levels to allow pedestrians to escape in the event of emergency, its worth checking. Rank: Guest		Posted By Shaun Hudson CMIOSH Ian, If memory serves me correctly I think the 6 metre radius was considered a suitable manoeuvring area to be provided and appropriately marked whilst RTITB (Road Transport and Industry Training Board) training is in progress (HSE Approved Code of Practice Rider Operator Training) Although I cannot find the actual dimensions written I feel sure that this was not for consideration of a safe FLT/Pedestrian distance.
