I am trying to write a paper on the topic Employee's perception of safety and health legislations? I would like to hear from any one with views/advice on this topic that I could consider. As well as current literature on the topic. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks

First, I have to say I cannot believe with 200 hits there have been no responses to a valid and fairly basic question.

Second, there is plenty of literature on the subject, but finding it is another matter. I would advise considering going into a workplace (unionised) and you will not be short of opinions if you ask the right people.

Finally, check out the following:

HSE Research Report 296, Obstacles preventing worker involvement in health and safety. HSE Research Report 214/1999, Safety Cultures: Giving staff a clear role. HSE R2P2, Reducing risks, protecting people. HSG48, Reducing error and influencing behaviour.

All above on the HSE website.

Ray

I would imagine it would be the same as anyone else if they were told you cannot now do what you did before to complete your work and it will cost you more money.

In large organisations where money is spent on H & S I would think positive perception.

Go to a small company or most building sites and you will get a different perception.

I would definitely ask ordinary people in the street and get others from different companies and occupations from the MD to a labourer.
