Posted By Robert S Woods A client has asked if there is any legal requirement on them to provide some form of driver training for their employees who may drive a company vehicle (they run 2 x 7.5 ton wagons).
Can anyone help?

Posted By Ian G Hutchings Hi Robert
As far as I am aware, outside of the UK licensing requirements, there is no legal requirement for further training.
If you want to look at this from a good practice perspective the answer is different. They have a legal obligation to the safety of their employees and members of the public. Further defensive driver training and a good road risk management policy (if implemented correctly) should provide them with greater assurance and defence in the case of a claim. This may also help them with their liability insurance.
There is HSE guidance on this on their website.
All the best
Ian

Posted By Steve Marshall There are some interpretations of PUWER that require you to train your drivers. Most of the legal requirements fall there and under general duties. If you need further advice then please give me a shout. steve_marshall@postmaster.co.uk. Cheers Steve
