Hi All
Does anyone have any advise on providing a method of hearing protection in an area where WPT is operating and employees are exposed to the 1st action exposure limit of 80db during there shift. I need something that will reduce the noise level sufficiently without preventing them from hearing vehicles.
Thanks

Have you thought about normal hearing protection and getting the vehicles equipped with high pitched bleapers?
Other ideas include protectors similar to those worn by explosive experts (shut off at point of noise and then back to 'normal' hearing).
Sounds an interesting workplace, vehicles and noise. What do you do?

Can you separate people from vehicles?
Will vehicles be audible above the noise source?
There are different attenuations of hearing protection depending the frequencies of the noise source, a bit of monitoring of the frequencies will tell you.
I would also suggest warning lights and banksmen rather than sounders which may increase the noise exposure.

Try Bose at www.boseinfo.co.uk for noise cancelling headphones.

Hi Jason
I have used the Bilsom NST type in a similar environment previously.
I think a few companies now do an equivalent, it may be worth asking one of the bigger PPE suppliers.
I know I am preaching to the converted, but it is important to remember that everything possible should be done to control exposure without the need for hearing protection.
Cheers

I would suggest you contact Simon Bull at Castle Group. He has a significant amount of knowledge on what is likely to work and what isn't (he is also very good at giving talks on the subject of noise).

Bill
