Posted By lewes We have a number of employee who have recently undertaken mobile tower scaffold training. They have been advised their style of training and the equipment used on training enables them to only construct and work on T3 type towers. Is this a sales pitch or are T3 different to others ??? Also, has anyone got a suitable Inspection Checklist they could lend a copy of ??? Thanks for any input and happy new year to all

Posted By Catman Hi Lewes Rather than a type of tower, I think they may be referring to the '3T' method of alloy tower erection which is also known as 'through the trap' and aims to prevent operatives from being exposed to fall risks during erection. Have a look at the PASMA website for more info on this and basic tower building guidelines. Cheers TW

Posted By Salus Hi Lewes, employees only need to be trained in the use of the tower they are using. This can be done by simply following the manufacturers instructions for erection / dismantling. Once your employees have done it a few times, and have no problems they will be deemed to be competent. Carry out your WAH hierarchy and RA. check: ground conditions (is it set up on hard or soft standing etc.manholes, slopes, overhead services)/the weather/all components for damage/make sure all components are there/guardrails/toeboards/working platform/bracing/outriggers/can u secure your tower to an existing structure?/can the tower be hit by a vehicle?/PPE being worn a written report must be completed of the work platform before it is used and if it remains erected for 7 days, and not exceeding 7 days if it has been altered or after any bad weather conditions. HTH

Posted By lewes The towers we use are always hired in so should come with a set of erection instructions. Are we saying that providing they have had some formal training and they erect in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations then this isnt a problem ?? Paperwork needs to be done, of course Cheers for your input

Posted By Safetynut if the training provided is accrediated by PASMA your guys who have attended that training i am sure that they each should recieve an inspection checklist. There is an instruction manual based on the 3T method available which can be downloaded from PASMA http://pasma.co.uk/downloads/Eiger500.pdf this method i understand is the only approved method by the HSE. i hope this helps

Posted By Andrew Beveridge PASMA also have a very useful dvd demonstrating the correct sequences; they were sending them out for free but now appear to charge £2.09 + vat ~ well worth it! Regards Andy
