Dear All,
I tried posting this in the study forum but maybe I'll have better luck here!
Please could I ask for opinions on what you would look for or see as the competency (and organisation membership) requirements for carrying out full/detailed noise surveys, producing reports/action plans etc.
I would like to learn more about this area and would welcome your thoughts. I have completed the NEBOSH National Diploma but was looking for something more indepth/comprehensive on noise i.e. recognised professional noise qualifications such as the Institute of Accoustics cert.

1. 'castle' as they provide some v-good training
2. acoustic's as there are a number of societies etc
Noise and vibration are very complicated areas - the equipment I currently have = >£15K and that does not include calibration / insurances etc costs
satisfying once you get into the subject's additionally I have saved employers thousands and employees illness by getting systems in place to manage the areas properly

Posted By Descarte Lots of companies offer noise assessment training and indeed most noise meter providers will offer you training in how to use the tools and conduct a survey. However I think the information you are after is the name of the UK IOSH equivalent for noise and vibration which in my opinion would be the BOHS - British Occupational Hygiene Society. The course you would want to have taken to prove yourself competent in noise monitoring and conducting surveys would be: http://www.bohs.org/reso...02_Syllabus_April_06.pdfAnd obviously you would nee to undertake your survey inline with the correct standards, ensure that your equipment is up to standard and calibrated by a accredited calibrator and certified. ie. they must meet British Standards 6402 (dosemeters), 5969 (peak levels), BS 6698 (integrating) or 5969 (simple sound level). You would also likely be required to use a complex mapping tool to calculate and graphically represent and map the noise level that you have recorded on to map or diagram, there are various on the market and again this have to conform to the appropriate BS or be an industry standard.

Dear All,
Many thanks for your responses and pointers towards different courses. It had been the IOA cert I'd been looking at but maybe the BOHS would be the better option.
Just out of interest, could anybody recommend any good providers for the IOA or BOHS courses?
